Things Jesus DIDN'T Say

Simple is best. This word, expression, is just not part of his vocabulary.

Dear God, I trust you. I trust that my past will make sense as I give my future to you. Thank you.

I'm Pastor Stephen, and this is my site. I am always interested in connecting theory with reality, hope with current circumstances and... knowledge with action. I've an eye on the future, with feet firmly on the ground. I believe that God loves us - is committed to us, cares for us, and as any good lover does - responds to us.

Of course, Jesus did say - If you live me, keep my commandments. He does say that, but we seem to insist that others love him, even when Jesus insists on no such thing. We need to stop validating ourselves, our spirituality and our relationship with Jesus by burdening others. It's a pollution of the gospel.
John 14.15 if you want to go take a look.

Jesus is all about community, and loving others as he loves us. We are to treat others as we would treat him. As humans we often don’t feel validated unless someone treats us better than other people. We want to be first. But Jesus spoke of a community where the first shall be last, and the last first. That does not stop being true after one switch around, but if you can imagine the motion resulting from such an ongoing philosophy, then we might start getting a picture of what living with Jesus might be like. And this is something, as always with Jesus, that should be shared.

This one is based on what Paul said, and is not one of his most popular in some circles. But perhaps that is because we read it the wrong way. (Check out Ephesians 5 if you want the original, and some context).

I remember the line in a song... "and they will know that we are christians by our love" and there are verses to that effect in the New Testament too. But I was struck here that we are often known by just about everything but... And we have a code to our behavior, dialogue and relationships. But this is not how Jesus knows us. It is also not how we know him. We know him by his love.
